The top 5 best Android tablet Apps for Students

I have compiled a list of the top 5 best tablet apps I use on my ASUS Transformer as a student. There are many other great apps other than the ones I have listed, but these are some of my favorites.

Evernote

Evernote

Evernote is one of the best apps for taking notes or any other kind of typing needs

Many of you are probably already familiar with Evernote, but for new students or those of you who are new to your mobile device, Evernote is one of the best apps for taking notes or any other kind of typing needs. As a student, I used this app daily.

You can create notebooks and within those notebooks you can keep your notes. Notes can be typed, scribbled, audio, or webcam. The app has a lot of different uses and it is important for each user to find out how to best use it for yourself. I personally used it to keep notes from my different classes and to write all of my posts for my blog.

The reason that I choose to use Evernote over other apps is because I can sync it with all of my devices. I love being able to type a note on my tablet at school and open it at home on my desktop. Other great features include: lots of sharing options, premium account with extra features, and much more.

Supernote Screenshot

Supernote is the most versatile of the note taking apps.

Two other apps that I wanted to mention that I occasionally use to accomplish similar tasks are the ASUS Supernote and SmartNotes. Supernote is the most versatile of the note taking apps. I love being able to type, scribble, draw, take pictures, include video, audio, and more all on the same note.

This is superior to Evernote, but it lacks the syncing capabilities of Evernote and that is HUGE for me. As for SmartNotes, it is a simple note taking app that has much of the versatility of Supernote with the syncing capabilities of Evernote.

You can link the app to your Dropbox account and easily open up notes to read on other devices. Unfortunately, they are read-only notes since they are saved as images. It does have an wicked awesome graph that you can use if you are in need of something like that in your classes.

Polaris Office

Create Word, Excel, or PowerPoint equivalent documents with the included Polaris Office Suite

If you have a ASUS tablet then I am sure that you are familiar with Polaris Office. I love Polaris Office. You can use it to create, edit, or open word processing documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and even view PDF documents.

I mostly used it to work on my excel spreadsheets for business classes, but you can easily show a presentation or do your word processing using this app. I haven’t found an app that is as good with excel than Polaris Office.

Dropbox

When I got my tablet Dropbox was one of the first apps I downloaded.

I am not sure how I ever survived without Dropbox. I have been an avid user of Dropbox for over a year now and it only gets better. When I got my tablet it was one of the first apps I downloaded. It is my favorite cloud storage option. I have access to all of my files from any of my devices instantly.

A great thing about Dropbox is how they treat their customers, especially students. First, you can create an account and get 2GB free, plus you can get up to an additional 16GB free! Well, I guess it isn’t free, but you can get an additional 250MB “free” by referring friends.

If they create an account and download the app or install it on their computer, then you get additional storage. The trick is…you can double it if you are a student! If you supply Dropbox with a .edu email, then instead of 250MB you will get 500MB for each referral.

TweetDeck

To access my Twitter feed and to write tweets, my app of choice is TweetDeck

First, I have to say that if you are not using Twitter, then you should be! Twitter has become one of the best ways to get quick and simple news. I don’t think news travels faster anywhere else. Plus, it is a great way for companies and customers alike to interact with each other.

Zenball THD Screenshot

My favorite game right now (as it changes often) is Zen Pinball THD

To access my twitter feed and to write tweets, my app of choice is TweetDeck. I can create multiple columns and easily follow feeds from prominent people, companies, or hashtags. You can also link your Facebook feed to it as well. I use this app to keep up on the latest happenings, socialize with friends, and even watch for job postings from companies that I really like.

Zen Pinball THD

I didn’t think the list would be complete without having at least one or two games listed among it. There are many gaming apps out there from some of your favorite board games to first person shooters. My favorite game right now (as it changes often) is Zen Pinball THD.

It takes me back to days when I would be at the arcade spending all of my money on pinball tables. I thought this game was very effective in relaxing me before big tests or while waiting in line at the financial aid office. You can check out the the app on the Nvidia Tegra Zone app.

Inotia3 RPG Screenshot

Inotia3 is the best RPG game on tablets so far.

Two other honorable mentions are Inotia3 and Rimblade BETA. Inotia3 is the best RPG game on tablets so far. It has a fun and exciting story and takes me back to the good ol’ days of RPG games on Nintendo. Rimblade is in beta right now, but I can’t get enough of the old school top down shoot ‘em up game. I hope to see some great things from the full version.

That completes my list of top apps for students. I know that I mentioned more than 5, but I couldn’t help myself. Feel free to add to the list in your comments or add suggestions on how to use these apps effectively.
